The 10th annual RTO spiel was once again held at the Lindsay Curling Club on Wednesday, November 4th, 2015. It was attended by 40 curlers and welcomed the return of several teams and individuals. We also welcomed some newcomers who we hope will return next year as well.
A wonderful day was had by all with learning new skills, applying old skills and renewing friendships throughout the day. Lots of conversation and laughter was enjoyed by all.
Following 2 games and a filling lunch, one team emerged victorious for 2015.
This team was skipped by Paul Pinkney and capably assisted by Suzanne Reading, Bruce Beatty and Floyd Walden. They earned the honour of having their team names added to the trophy. This trophy is the original “Bates Bonspiel” which began many years ago and then remained dormant until 10 years ago when the RTO bonspiel started.
I have organized this event for the past 10 years and decided it was time to pass the event on to others. The winning team was suggested to be the organizers for next year. Paul Pinkney agreed to this, so mark your calendars for Wednesday, November 9th, 2016. Paul’s contact info will appear in a newsletter prior to the event. I agreed to continue to be responsible for the prizes.
This year again, there were people who helped me with the event and without them, the event would not happen. Thanks were extended to the curling club staff, Mark West, Dave Nigh and Bob Widdis. The caterer, Lee Smith, again supplied us with coffee, a morning snack and a delicious lunch. Bruce Peck once more acted as the registration guy who welcomed everyone and collected the money. We gratefully extended many thanks to Pat Lovsin for generously paying for the rental of the Curling Club!!
This event has been enjoyed by all who have attended and it truly has been and continues to be a “FUN” spiel. Please consider participating next year! Karen Brentnell (Convenor)
